At Nutcracker Marketing, your privacy is really important to us. This privacy policy document outlines the types of information that is received and collected by our web site and how it is used.
What personal data we collect (and why we collect it)
Email Subscribers
You will only receive email from us if you’ve subscribed to our email list. We do not not sell, trade, or otherwise distribute your address with anyone, excepting only releases required by court order. I maintain the email list on a private account, and I abide by the anti-spam rules promulgated by CAN-SPAM. At the bottom of every email is an “Unsubscribe” link – just click on it and you will be automatically and immediately unsubscribed from the list. We’ll be sad to see you go, but rest assured your email address will remain confidential even after you’ve unsubscribed.
Comments Left on the Site
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. You can request removal of your comment by sending us an email. Once you’ve confirmed you’d like the comment removed, it will vanish – as will the name and email address associated with the comment. Please note that all comments are sent to an automated spam detection service which is cloud based (Akismet – see their privacy policy) before they are returned to be considered for publication on this site.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Cookies
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed immediately.
Personally Identifiable Information
This site does register the IP address and ISP of logged in users, as well as those leaving comments. Blog commenters IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the site administrator. As noted above, we will not sell, trade, or otherwise distribute personally identifiable information with anyone, excepting only releases required by court order.
In addition, an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) is provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it, and is subject to the Gravatar service privacy policy. Your Gravatar picture is visible to the public adjacent to your comment(s).
Note that if you upload images to the website, you should avoid any with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website may download and extract your location from those images.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content from other web sites (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Put another way, the other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Log Files
Like many other web sites, this site makes use of log files. The information in the log files includes visitors’ operating system and type of browser, the date, time, and duration of their visit, their referring & exit pages, and the number and type of the visitors’ clicks. Much of this information is collated by Google Analytics. None of the information collected allows anyone to personally identify you. This information is used to analyze trends and administer and improve the site. This is done by analyzing users’ movement around the site, to see what users find most interesting and to gather demographic information about which users are most interested in specific bits of the site’s content.
Cookies and Web Beacons
In addition to log files, this site uses cookies to store information about visitors preferences, records user-specific information on which pages the user accesses or visits, and customizes web page content based on visitor’s browser type or other information that the visitor sends via their browser.
DoubleClick DART Cookie
Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to visitors based on their history of visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. Visitors may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.
DoubleClick DART Cookie and Display Advertising
Display Advertising may enabled on this web site, and allows Google Analytics’ features that aren’t otherwise available, such as Remarketing with Google Analytics, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration, and Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting. All data collected is anonymous, and contains no personally identifiable information. Site visitors can use Google’s Ads Settings to opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads.
If you prefer to completely opt-out of the Google Analytics features associated with Display Advertising, please download and install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on for your browser.

These third-party ad servers or ad networks incorporate programming code in the advertisements and links that appear on this site. That code (such as cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons) may be used by the third-party ad networks to record your internet protocol (IP), address and measure the effectiveness of their advertisements, and personalize the advertising content they serve to you.

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely – unless you request the removal of the comment as noted above. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
